Givenchy Names Sarah Burton Next Designer

Fashion house Givenchy has chosen Sarah Burton as its new creative director.

Sarah Burton, who has been with Alexander McQueen for 14 years, will take over the role from Clare Waight Keller, who left the company in April after three years.

Givenchy is a French luxury fashion house founded in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy. The house is known for its elegant and sophisticated designs, and has been worn by many celebrities, including Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Grace Kelly.

Burton is a British fashion designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 1997. She joined Alexander McQueen in 2000, and became creative director in 2010 following the death of McQueen.

Burton is known for her romantic and feminine designs, which often feature intricate embroidery and beading. She has also been praised for her work with sustainable materials.

Her appointment at Givenchy is a major coup for the fashion house, and is expected to bring a new level of creativity and innovation to the brand.

Burton's vision for Givenchy

In an interview with Vogue, Burton said that she wants to "bring a sense of modernity and freshness" to Givenchy while still respecting the house's heritage.

She said that she is particularly interested in exploring the idea of "femininity in a modern context" and that she wants to create clothes that are "both beautiful and empowering."

Burton's first collection for Givenchy is expected to be released in October 2020.

Reaction to Burton's appointment

The fashion world has reacted positively to Burton's appointment. Many industry insiders have praised her talent and creativity, and have said that she is the perfect person to lead Givenchy into the future.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour said that Burton is "one of the most talented designers of her generation" and that she is "excited to see what she brings to Givenchy."

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs said that Burton is "a visionary" and that he is "looking forward to seeing her take on Givenchy."
