Seven Years in Tibet is a 1997 American biographical war drama film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The film is based on the 1952 book of the same name by Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian mountaineer and explorer who was imprisoned in a British internment camp in India during World War II. After escaping the camp, Harrer and a fellow prisoner traveled to Tibet, where they spent seven years living among the Tibetan people.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Harrer, David Thewlis as Peter Aufschnaiter, and Mako as the Dalai Lama. It was filmed on location in Argentina, Canada, and Nepal.

Seven Years in Tibet was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $131 million worldwide. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
